Abstract
Kanker adalah kelainan dengan multifaktorial kompleks dan dapat menyebabkan angka kematian yang tinggi sehingga membuat kanker menjadi ancaman serius. Berbagai upaya dilakukan untuk menangani kasus kanker salah satunya adalah dengan kemoterapi. Akantetapi kemoterapi juga dapat melukai sel sehat seperti sel darah, sel kulit dan sel pencernaan. Pendekatan terapi baru yang tidak menimbulkan efek samping diperlukan. Salah satunya adalah terapi berbasis bahan alam yaitu fukoidan pada teripang. Bukti yang berkembang menunjukkan bahwa fukoidan memiliki efek antikanker. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui potensi fukoidan pada teripang sebagai agen antikanker. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah studi literatur. Hasil yang diperoleh mengenai efektifitas potensi dari fukoidan sebanyak 15 jurnal ilmiah dengan topik yang relevan didapat dari PubMed. Fukoidan sendiri berinteraksi dengan berbagai jalur seluler terkait kanker. Jalur yang dilaporkan paling penting adalah jalur PI3K/Akt dan MAPK/ERK. Mekanisme dari fukoidan sendiri dengan cara menghambat fosforilasi jalur PI3K/Akt dan MAPK/ERK yang menghasilkan apoptosis, menghambat proliferasi, aktivitas antiangiogenik, menurunkan viabilitas, menekan kapasitas migrasi dan invasif pada sel kanker.
